Our Mission
To empower and educate the people of our community to be Mentally Strong, Physically Fit and Mentally healthy through quality martial arts instruction. We are a family owned company and a family oriented culture. Our academy is a place of positivity where people of all walks of life can come together and train to become better versions of themselves.
Why We Built This

Why Our Clovis Martial Arts Academy Exists.

Guido's Martial Arts Academy is a family-owned martial arts academy in Clovis, CA. Founded in 2016 by Shihan Mike Guido, the school has built its reputation on character development, the Black Belt Principles, and a family-oriented community where people of all walks of life come together to become better versions of themselves. Shihan Guido has been on the floor since day one.

Guido's is family-owned and family-run. Justa Guido serves as Co-Owner and General Manager. The leadership team is supported by a roster of nationally certified instructors who teach the way Shihan Guido built the academy to teach, with patience, with rigor, and with a clear sense of what each student needs to move forward.

What makes families stay is not the building. It is the consistency of instruction and the fact that every student is treated as an individual with a specific trajectory.

How We Build Kids

Built around how kids actually develop.

Every kids program at Guido's keys in on the four stages of childhood development: Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, and Social. We call it PIES. It is how we structure classes, design drills, and build the relationships that turn a shy four-year-old into a confident kid who walks into school with a quiet sense of who they are.

  • P Physical

Coordination, strength, control of the body.

  • I Intellectual

Focus, problem-solving, learning how to learn.

  • E Emotional

    Confidence, self-regulation, handling setbacks.

  • S Social

    Respect, teamwork, friendship across ages.

The Black Belt Principles in Action

Four Words. Ten Years. Zero Exceptions.

Discipline
Discipline is the practice of doing what is required even when it is inconvenient, until it becomes identity.
Respect
Respect is shown before it is taught. Instructors model what they expect from students. It runs in both directions, on the mat and off.
Effort
Effort is the standard. Every student is expected to bring their full attention to every class, regardless of skill or time training.
Growth
Growth is the purpose of every class. Progress that is visible, trackable, and earned by the student through consistent work.
Straight Talk

What We Are Not.

A student celebrated by clapping teammates at a belt promotion at Guido's Martial Arts Academy in Clovis
Not a McDojo.
Every belt requires a demonstration of actual technique in front of the head instructor. Students who are not ready do not test. The belt means something here, and students understand that from their first day on the mat.
Not a Belt Mill.
Our testing cycle is based on instructor assessment, not a calendar. A student might test in three months or in nine months depending on where they are and what the next rank genuinely requires.
Not a Fight Gym Without a Standard.
We train students of every background and goal. Whether your child is stepping on the mat for the first time or an adult looking to push their limits, contact training is introduced at the right time for each student and is always supervised.

Before You Sign Up

Questions About Who We Are and How We Teach.

Who founded Guido's Martial Arts Academy?

Guido's Martial Arts Academy was founded in 2016 by Shihan Mike Guido. Shihan Guido has been on the floor since day one and leads the school's commitment to character development, the Black Belt Principles, and building champions in life through quality martial arts instruction.

What styles do you teach and why?

We teach Mixed Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Karate. MMA and Karate run together in the same program for kids and adults and develop confidence, discipline, focus, and self-defense. BJJ is taught as its own program from ages 7 and up and teaches the leverage-based grappling art that does not depend on size or strength.

How are your instructors qualified?

Every instructor at Guido's is a nationally certified professional. Shihan Mike Guido leads instructor development and reviews every student's progression personally. New instructors shadow experienced staff before they ever run their own class, and they continue their own training and certification work year over year. The standard on our floor is the standard Shihan Guido has held since the doors opened in 2016.

How long has the Guido's martial arts academy been in Clovis?

We opened in 2016 and have served the Clovis community for 10 years. We are a family-owned, family-oriented academy and the majority of our students come from Clovis and the surrounding area.

What is your approach to teaching kids?

Our approach to kids is grounded in the Black Belt Principles, the ABCs of Conflict Avoidance, and a Bully Prevention and Child Safety curriculum. Kids are expected to listen, focus, and try. When they meet those expectations, they are recognized. When they fall short, they are coached, not shamed. The character development parents notice at home is a direct result of a consistent environment where effort is what gets rewarded.

How do you handle different skill levels in one class?

Mixed skill levels are handled through tiered instruction. The technique is the same for everyone, but partners, complexity, and resistance are calibrated per student. Beginners are welcome in every class and instructors meet students at their current level.

What is your belt testing process?

Students are evaluated on a regular basis on their technique, spirit, energy and consistency in class. If they meet the requirements, they move forward. If they do not, they will receive specific feedback from their instructor and plan for improvement.

How is Guido's Martial Arts Academy involved in the Clovis community?

Guido's is a family-owned academy and a family-oriented home for the people who train here. Our students and their families come from across Clovis, Fresno County, and the surrounding area. Many of the moms, dads, and kids on our mat first found us through another family at a school, a sports field, or a neighborhood event. Building a place where the whole community feels welcome is part of why we opened, and it shapes how we run the academy every day.
